Syllabus Outline:
The Language A2 program consists of the study of four options at HL or three options at SL, such that at least one option each must be taken from Part 1 and Part 2. Teaching time should be equally divided between the options. In addition, students are required to build up a personal dossier during the course consisting of work and material which they find interesting or stimulating.

 PART 1   HL Combinations SL Combinations
Topic Options Each topic can be divided into many sub-topics or aspects and approached from a variety of angles (e.g. linguistic, technological, historical, aesthetic, ethical, ideological, visual, etc.). The choice of topics is as follows:
  • Future/Change – the shape of things to come
  • Global Issues – issues reaching beyond national frontiers
  • Language/Culture – impact of language on the modern world
  • Media – the principal means of mass communication
  • Society – the concerns of society as a collective in contrast to the concerns of the individual

  • Informative: articles, reports, reviews, essays, business letters, pamphlets, handbooks, textbooks, advertisements, etc.
  • Journalistic: newspapers, magazines (including articles, editorials), comic strips, documentaries, etc.
