My philosophy of education is similar to that of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). It is about building a global community, about social justice, about peace, “about learning to live to together”. In my opinion this shared moral and social purpose of education embodies in it the many other purposes of education including the end of making money for a better family life.

Fortunately at the time of founding The International School in 1996, the IBO Middle Years Program (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16 years and the high school Diploma program for students aged 16 to 18 years was at offer for internationally minded school like the International School. My team and I were able, by October of that year, to be authorized by IBO to offer the MYP. The process of convincing IBO of our commitment and readiness was intensive but successful. Subsequently in due course of time we were authorized for the IB Diploma and registered with Cambridge International Examination and Edexcel International (2004). Since then to now we are the first and only IB world School in Pakistan.

I have experienced the role of an IB Assistant Examiner (4651) for IB Mathematical Studies (1999 to today); IB MYP Mathematics Guide Writer (1999); IB MYP Authorization visit Team Member (India – 1999, Thailand – 2007), IB MYP Homo Faber Presenter (2000), IB MYP Mathematics Workshop leader (2000), Five-Year Diploma Evaluation Review Team Member (2006), DP Authorization Visit Trainee (2006), presenter at the IBAP Annual Conference (2006) and CIS school evaluation team member.

Education is all about RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!

As the high school IB Diploma coordinator from the commencement of the 2009 academic year, I have come to see education as I had thought it should be taught i.e. teach students to think out of the box. IB develops a student’s critical thinking powers and teaches them to seek solutions rather than the “spoon feeding” of the prevalent traditional education systems. IB educational ideals meet the demand of the future. Education for me means being progressive minded, tapping into the full capabilities of a person’s range of learning, making a person ready to meet the future and to be able to multi task. Apart from all these qualities, it should teach a student how to be a compassionate human being which is the core requirement of the program.

My Bachelors of Law degree prepared me to comprehensively look at situations from all angles and then make the best decision possible. This trait or skill is interestingly at the IB as well. Whereas one program is being taught at the secondary level, the other is at the Bachelor level. This is why I chose this system for my daughters, so that they learn more than just textbook education. The adoption of the 10 learner profile traits will make them into an internationally minded and well rounded person early in life rather than later.

Our World is progressing at a tremendous pace and if we don’t prepare our future generation with skills to adapt changes then there is a possibility of them becoming misfits and at a loss.

IB Diploma Program is all about creating such individuals who will be prepared to meet the challenges of university life and Life in general with skills to match the changing world.

I am currently the MYP Coordinator and English Language instructor at The International School. My career with the school spans 14 years, and over this period of time my views on education have greatly changed. Having had the opportunity to be on both sides of the fence, a teacher, as well as an administrator, I have realized that being an educator goes far beyond delivering a lecture. Anyone can stand in front of a class and regurgitate facts from a book, but the challenge lies in tapping into the souls of our students and motivating them enough for them, themselves, to want to strive for an education. It involves, firstly, our own realization that the world today is a very different place than the one we grew up in, and that the challenges and temptations faced by our youth are enough to scatter them in every direction, except towards their books. Empathizing with student issues is the key to understanding them, and lays the foundations for solid unions to be built, unions based on friendship, trust and respect. This respect transforms a regular teacher into a role model, a person whose every word inspires the students in their classroom. When this bond has been formed, students do not have to instructed, they aim to please. They begin to understand that their actions cause ripples, affecting others as well as themselves, both socially and academically. This results in highly self-motivated children, achievers who will not settle for second best. No textbook will teach them that, it comes from within; they have to want it for themselves. When we, as educators can inspire our students to reach this peak, the battle has truly been won.

Pre-school Program Coordinator

I am at the first and only IB world school In Pakistan as the Pre School Coordinator (PPYP). I have been in the education field for the last 18 years and this has lead me to many experiences, relating to different levels of teaching, and different levels of socioeconomic backgrounds. This, however, did not deter me to be an educationist but in fact made me adamant to stay in this field and keep on learning. Being in the education field I feel is the most satisfying feeling one can have. To acknowledge the fact that your attitude, your behavior, your compassion, your knowledge can benefit someone who will lead the future for the next generation. My Montessori training from AMI and brief career experience with special children has taught me to be more diversified in my teaching methods. Education is knowledge, Knowledge which enables you to handle situations which you encounter through out your life.

Today, I am both a teacher and an administrator. I completed my Masters in Education in Planning and Management, and have realized that both my qualifications are as essential as can be. The administration has to be there for the smooth running of the school environment which enables the teachers to do their work more efficiently for the benefit of the students. Students who are in need of special help also have all the right to be given the best of education in a different way , having done the Diploma course from Hornsby, England ,I think it is a responsibility to these kids that we impart knowledge as best as we can according to their requirements.

In 2003, I joined TIS as an office assistant and continued my post graduate studies in Business Administration from Mohammad Ali Jinnah University. In 2006, I graduated with an MBA to commence my responsibilities as teacher of the IB Diploma Business & Management & Religion courses at the middle school section, extended essay coordination and managing the office of the Registrar.

For my role above I have been attended numerous IB related workshops in school and in Singapore. My aim is to be a resourceful and innovative instructor who strives to add value to not only students’ academic s but over all achievements. I strongly believe in supporting my colleagues in administration and in facilitating each student’s social and intellectual growth by creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and open communication. Perhaps this is the reason for my being selected as “Teacher of student choice” in 2007, 2008 & 2009. Following my success in teaching the program, I was selected as an IB Business and Management examiner.

My philosophy of “encouragement of socialization and team spirit” creates relations to motivate students to make learning an enjoyable part of their lives.




Mirza Ayaz Baig

“The road to success is always under construction”. In contrast to my 17 years of experience in managing firms in the field of IT, my current role as the Business Manager at The International School is my first experience in managing education. A lot of what I had learned from my previous years is very much applicable in my current role as both IT and education are service oriented fields. However managing education has brought forward a new challenge to my leadership and management. The system which is already implemented in the school has greatly assisted me in the transition to my administrational role and has greatly assisted me in improving my leadership skills.

My current MBA (In progress) courses are enabling me to reflect on my present and past practices with read literature. These include driven sales, marketing, management, business awareness, creative team building with exceptional presentation abilities, motivation and communication at all levels.
